🧬DNA 101 · the science, made fun
How your DNA copies — and corrects — itself
Every time a cell divides, it rewrites three billion letters of you — almost flawlessly. Here's the two-minute version, then try fixing a typo yourself.
Step 1
The four-letter alphabet
DNA is written with just four bases — A, T, G and C. They only pair one way: A with T, and G with C. Tap a base to meet its partner.
Pick a base above to see how it pairs up…
Step 2
Copying the code: replication
To divide, a cell must copy all of its DNA. The double helix unzips, and each old strand becomes a template for a brand-new partner — two identical copies from one original.
1
Unzip — enzymes split the two strands apart like a zipper.
2
Match — loose bases snap onto each strand following A–T, G–C.
3
Two copies — each new helix is half-old, half-new. Genius, and fast.
Step 3
Rectification: spot the typo
Copying three billion letters isn't perfect — mistakes slip in. So your cells proofread. As DNA is copied, the enzyme checks each new pair and corrects mismatches on the spot; a second "mismatch repair" crew sweeps up whatever's left.
One rung on the right is paired wrong. Be the repair enzyme — find the broken pair and tap it to fix it. 🔍
Repairs made: 0
Tap the mismatched pair…
Proofreading and repair catch about 999 of every 1,000 copy errors. ENAble reads the meaningful differences that remain — your genetic tendencies and probabilities, never a diagnosis.

We analyse hundreds of genetic variants (SNPs) across your genome relevant to performance, lifestyle, and activity compatibility. Each domain reports tendencies and probabilities — for example, whether you may tend toward a faster or slower recovery rate, or whether your genetics suggest a leaning toward endurance versus power sports. These are probabilistic insights, not certainties or diagnoses.
How is my genetic data stored and protected?
Your raw genetic data and processed DNA Passport are encrypted at rest and in transit (AES-256 / TLS 1.3). All data is stored in EU-based data centres. We are registered with the Irish Data Protection Commission and process genetic data in accordance with GDPR Article 9 (special category data). Physical samples are destroyed after sequencing, unless you request longer retention.
What's the difference between Core, Plus, and Genome?
Core (€279) uses SNP genotyping to cover the three Phase 1 domains: Performance Potential, Lifestyle Fit, and Activity Compatibility. Plus (from €399) adds extended reporting, three months of AI Companion, and priority processing. Genome (from €799, coming soon) performs whole-genome sequencing at 30× depth, unlocking the Phase 2 Health Awareness domain with clinician review.
How long does it take to get my results?
From the day your sample arrives at our laboratory, results are typically ready in 4–6 weeks. Plus customers benefit from priority processing and can expect results in approximately 4 weeks. You'll receive an email notification the moment your DNA Passport is ready to view.
Is ENAble a medical service?
No. ENAble is a wellness and lifestyle intelligence platform, not a medical diagnostic service. Our DNA insights reveal genetic tendencies and probabilities to inform your personal choices — they are not a substitute for clinical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. If you have health concerns, please consult a qualified healthcare professional. The Phase 2 Health Awareness domain includes a clinician review, but this does not constitute a clinical consultation.
What wearables does the AI Companion support?
The AI Companion integrates with Apple Health, Garmin Connect, Oura Ring, and Fitbit. We also pull live environmental data — local weather, air quality (AQI), and pollen counts — to further contextualise your weekly guidance. Additional integrations are on our roadmap.
Can I delete my data?
Yes, at any time. You can request full deletion of your genetic data, DNA Passport, and account from within the app or by emailing privacy@enable.ie. We will confirm deletion within 30 days. Under GDPR, you also have rights to access, portability, and restriction of processing.
Is my DNA sold to third parties?
Never. Your genetic data is not sold to, shared with, or accessible by any third party — including insurers, pharmaceutical companies, employers, researchers, or data brokers. Our revenue comes from subscriptions, not your data. This is a core, legally binding commitment in our Terms of Service.
What is IVDR and why does it matter?
The EU In Vitro Diagnostic Regulation (IVDR, 2017/746) sets the regulatory framework for genetic testing laboratories in Europe. Our lab partner is IVDR-registered, meaning it meets stringent EU standards for analytical accuracy, quality management, and safety. This gives you confidence that your genetic analysis is performed to a verified scientific standard.
Can I cancel my AI Companion subscription?
Yes. The AI Companion is a monthly subscription at €15/month with no minimum term. You can cancel at any time from within the app — your DNA Passport remains fully accessible after cancellation. There are no cancellation fees or penalties.
